Finn’s Place is a community center in Fort Worth, TX for trans and gender-diverse people to gather, grow, and flourish.
Our vision is to unite the wider Fort Worth/Tarrant County area as a community that fosters trans joy. We aim to create connections and provide education in the community so that when people leave Finn's Place, they are leaving their community center, but not their sense of community.
Finn's Place works to provide a safe space for the trans community to gather and access resources, educate the community about trans and LGBTQ+ people and their experiences, and create opportunities for trans joy.
At Finn's Place, we describe "trans joy" as when a trans person feels safe in their body, their identity is respected, and they have access to a supportive community. Finn's Place is a haven for trans joy, so that anyone who walks through our doors feels safe, respected, loved, and supported. Trans joy should be everywhere a trans person is.
Finn’s Place is named after Finn Spicer, a trans teenager who taught those around him to trust people when they communicate who they are.
A donation of $50 to Finn's can ensure a young transgender individual has access to books that center their experience, even as these books are being removed from schools and libraries across North Texas.
A donation of $100 can help provide snacks to our monthly Board Game Nights, TTRPG nights, or Video Game nights so that youth don't have to decide between having dinner and coming to engage with their community.
A donation of $150 can provide gender-affirming haircuts to transgender youth who have limited options when it comes to ways to express their identity.
Finn’s Place envisions a region and nation in which everyone has an equal opportunity to live a healthy and dignified life. By everyone, we mean all people regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or income. As a community center focused on supporting the joy of transgender and gender-diverse individuals, we must ensure that our internal policies and practices are in keeping with our mission.
We strive to be a diverse and inclusive organization by ensuring that people from different backgrounds are involved meaningfully in the organization. This includes having leadership responsibilities at both the level of governance and operations. We also strive to organize various aspects of our work and organizational processes so that they contribute to equity outside of the center. To this end, we have developed a set of diversity and equity goals and practices to support the Board of Trustees and staff in their efforts to be accountable to the community. These indicators are used by the board and staff to reflect on our progress on diversity and equity and to encourage decision-making for continuous improvement.
