Mission and About Us
Brown Girls Do Ballet® is a division of Brown Girls Do.® , Inc, a registered 501(c)3. Our purpose is to promote diversity in the arts by providing annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs to empower young girls. Our mission is supported by merchandise sales and fundraisers.
Every gift helps make ballet a space where our girls see themselves center stage. Brown Girls Do Inc. empowers young dancers through scholarships, mentorship, and community programming, to uplift voices often overlooked.
It began in 2013, when TaKiyah Wallace, while searching for a ballet class for her daughter, recognized a painful absence of representation. What started as a photography project to reflect diversity in dance grew into a nationwide movement uplifting countless young ballerinas.
