Irving Youth Theatre (IYT) was founded in January 2023 as part of the Entertainment Series of Irving's educational outreach. IYT has already brought to life thirteen musicals, including the full-length Into the Woods and an original adaptation of Kevin Henkes' beloved book Chrysanthemum, all while impacting the lives of dozens of young performers and their families across the DFW metroplex. The 2026-2027 season ranges from the full-length Shrek The Musical to summer camp productions, including the innovative "Summer on the Stage Production Camp" where students learn about the technical and front-of-house aspects of putting on a show.  There will be an original Sioux City Science Fair-A Musical Mystery in February 2027, promising to bring new songs and storyline to life on the Irving Arts Center stage.

IYT welcomes all children in grades K–12, regardless of which school they attend. Each production is designed for a specific age range, giving every young actor a chance to shine. Through the magic of live theatre, our performers—and the families and audiences who cheer them on—experience community, creativity, confidence, collaboration, and joy. Being part of a show is a truly transformative experience, and we’re committed to making it accessible to every child.

Each show is a labor of love and a community effort. With an average production budget of approximately $15,000, most of our shows cost between $10,000–$20,000 to produce. Depending on the royalties and venue costs in addition to staging the show with sets, costumes, and props, each show varies in expenses and ticket sales only help to defray the cost of putting on a show by about 25%. Donations help make our youth productions possible!

In addition to financial support, we love when the community joins us behind the scenes! Volunteers are needed to build and paint sets, make and gather props, organize costumes, sell program ads, request donations, run backstage crew, usher, manage concessions and merchandise, and—of course—buy tickets!

How will you support Irving Youth Theatre? Whether you give time, talent, or treasure, your involvement helps keep the magic of theatre alive for the next generation.

Equity Statement

All are welcome and included. IYT families come from all over the world! Our shows are open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grades no matter which school (or homeschool) they attend. Some shows allow for college-age students to join us. Each show has a different targeted age-range for performers. Families must be willing to rehearse and perform in Irving. Students may participate on the stage or behind the scenes. IYT provides scholarships for young people to be able to participate no matter their family's finances. Families are required to volunteer and participate in the production of the shows as Irving Youth Theatre is an all-volunteer organization. Community members are welcome to volunteer as well.
