Annual Required Vet Visit
$0 Raised
Golden Reward is an approved 501c3. We provide sanctuary, a retirement home, for older dogs and horses. The animals who come here stay here for life. They don’t have to work anymore, and they get the best care and nurturing possible, along with a lot of love.
Since older animals have more medical issues and a shorter life expectancy, they are the hardest ones to adopt out. That’s why we decided to focus on seniors – so that we can make a difference for these animals that deserve better and have earned the chance for a cushy retirement. In many cases we are helping people too. We have horses that have come to us because their owners got cancer or other serious illnesses, because owners have died, or because the owners are in dire financial straits. As well, we have volunteers from the local community who benefit from spending time with our animals, and we provide clinics on horsemanship basics. We focus on local animals to help our community here in North Texas.
Our mission and our passion is saving senior horses and providing them with a safe and loving retirement home. A forever home where they will never be at risk again. We focus on horses over the age of 20 from within our community. Our horses come from a wide range of situations from Animal Control seizures to owners who face difficulties that don’t allow them to care for their animals anymore. Our horses receive the best vet care, high quality supplements tailored to their needs, and pastures to roam. All of our pastures have access to a barn and to shade and water.
Projects
We have set up Fundraisers for each of our major projects: the annual medicals for all the horses; shelter for the minis; and sponsorship for the Blue Ridge Herd - Abby, Angel, and Waylon.
Sponsorship
Our greatest need right now is monthly sponsors for our horses to help with recurring daily costs.
Full sponsorship for one horse is $250 a month. This covers: Quality grain and hay, any required supplements, scheduled vet care (shots, teeth, etc.) and farrier care. You are not responsible for any other expenses incurred by "your" horse but we always appreciate extra help. It's those spontaneous vet bills that get us.
Sponsorship allows you to "have" a horse without the time, space, and monetary responsibilities that come along with horse ownership. You get to come visit GRS and pick "your" horse, then come visit often to spend quality time with them.
Right now 21 horses are at least partially sponsored. That means that 10 of them are in financial need but, more importantly, they don't have their own "person".
All other donations are made to the general fund and cover extra supplements, vet, and medical costs.
Volunteers
Through our volunteer programs, we match our horses to a person, so that each horse has “their own person” who gives them special attention.
Adult volunteers with horse experience can sign up to help with cleanup and heavy chores twice a day (7-9am and 4-6pm)
Adult volunteers with children can sign up to help groom horses weekdays between 4-6pm
Send us a message for more information and the date of our next volunteer orientation. You can also find more information about Sponsorship and Volunteering on our website or Facebook page.
