Some places become part of your family before you realize it. For us, the Farmstead started with my wife’s work there and became a place where our kids have made some of their favorite memories. They have learned how to care for and love farm animals at summer camp, spent time at Little Farmer Fridays, watched the Farmstead glow with Christmas lights while roasting marshmallows, and caught tadpoles in the creek. Friends of the Farmstead, Lights on the Farm, and other events have become meaningful traditions for our family and extended relatives.
I was born and raised in the Dallas and Fort Worth area, as was my wife, and we are raising our family here in Plano. That makes the Farmstead’s story feel like part of our own. It preserves the agricultural history of the North Texas Blackland Prairie, but it also makes that history accessible: children meet animals, families step into historic buildings, and students learn through hands-on experiences. It is a place where local history becomes something you can see, touch, and remember.
I serve on the board because I want to help protect that experience for the families who already love it and the ones who have not discovered it yet. My professional life has taught me how good ideas become sustainable, practical work, but my connection to the Farmstead is much more personal than that. I have seen what this place means to my own family.
Keeping the Farmstead going takes more than preserving buildings. It takes caring for the grounds and animals, supporting education, welcoming school groups, and creating the events and experiences that bring people back year after year.
That is why I am asking you to support Heritage Farmstead. A gift helps keep this living piece of Plano history open, useful, and welcoming. If the Farmstead has become part of your family’s traditions, or if you are ready to help another family discover it, please consider making a gift today.
Thank you for helping keep this special place growing.
