A Life Transformed and a Family Restored

When Haley first logged into our FOCUS+ For Mothers class, she was scared, overwhelmed, and heartbroken. Years of financial, physical, and emotional abuse had left her feeling defeated. The violence in her home had become so severe that Child Protective Services intervened, and her children were placed in foster care.

Without her children, a job, or a home where they could return, Haley couldn't imagine how she would ever rebuild her life.

After each FOCUS+ class, we spent time together talking through her fears and searching for resources that could help her move forward. One day, we found a local job fair. Haley took a chance, attended, and was hired on the spot at an electronics warehouse earning $23 an hour. For the first time in more than ten years, she had a job of her own. More importantly, she began believing in herself again.

We also connected Haley with a pro bono counselor who helped her begin healing from years of abuse and trauma. Week by week, the quiet, fearful woman who first entered our classroom began to change. She started smiling. She laughed. She encouraged other mothers who were facing their own difficult journeys. She discovered strengths she had forgotten she possessed.

On June 15, Haley graduated from FOCUS+. She had completed her services, secured stable employment, and found the confidence that had been buried beneath years of abuse.

When I spoke with her yesterday, she shared exciting news—she had just paid the security deposit on her very first apartment. On August 28th, I will stand beside her in court as her attorney and CPS work toward a monitored return of her children. She is one step closer to bringing her family back together.
