Basketball Buddies-Yavneh Students

Basketball Buddies is a truly special program led by four high school students from Akiba Yavneh, Skylar Rosenberg, Evie Schwartz, Zohar Gorny, and Deena Lampert. Once a month, a group of volunteers comes together with other to spend meaningful time with children who have special needs. These events are more than just basketball games and sports they are opportunities to The goal of Basketball Buddies is simple, to provide a space where children with special needs can feel included, supported, and celebrated. Whether we’re shooting hoops, playing games, or just sitting and talking, every moment is filled with joy and connection. For us as volunteers, it’s a reminder of the importance of kindness and community. For the kids, it’s a chance to feel the excitement of being part of a team, surrounded by friends who cheer them on and share laughter. It fills our hearts to see the pure happiness on their faces that grows with each interaction. Those little moments remind us that giving our time and energy makes a real difference. At the same time, we also find ourselves uplifted and inspired by their enthusiasm and spirit. Basketball Buddies is not only about helping others, it’s also about growing, and realizing how powerful our time and compassion can be.
