We are helping mold the minds of future leaders and changemakers. It is palpable.
--Ms. Moneer, Solar Prep for Boys
Friends of Solar Prep is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the Solar Preparatory Schools, two innovative, single-gender prek-8 campuses in Dallas, TX.
Solar Prep for Girls and Solar Prep for Boys are rigorous public schools with scholars coming from across the city. We use a transformative model that ensures fifty percent of student enrollment is made up of economically disadvantaged scholars and the fifty percent is composed of non-economically disadvantaged scholars. We employ a weighted lottery to achieve this balance.
Solar Prep is unique because we have students from ALL over Dallas. This provides an important mix of lifestyles and experiences. I love seeing students be friends with people who do not live in the same neighborhood or have the same type of family. It gives me hope for the future.
--Ms. Mathai, Solar Prep for Girls
Our mission is to ensure that every Solar Prep scholar has equal access to educational opportunities that encourage them to realize their full potential. But here’s the reality: this kind of rich, innovative education costs more than what the Dallas Independent School District provides— about $350 extra per student each year.
We fund what is not provided for by limited public education budgets, including student and educator enrichment experiences and STEAM-related learning materials. You can read more about our needs here and more about the amazing Solar Prep success story in a recent Texas Monthly article: https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/dallas-school-solar-prep-economic-diversity/
Please help us continue to support these transformative schools!

Solar Prep for Boys is a unique and special place. Here, we do more than provide rigorous academic instruction—we guide our boys on the journey of becoming great men.
We understand boys. We meet them where they are. We celebrate their energy, their movement, their joy, and their playfulness. Most importantly, we see each boy as an individual and honor them as brothers in a community built on respect and belonging.
--Mr. Hernandez, Solar Prep for Boys
I wish more people knew how intentional everything at Solar Prep is. From the way we build community, to the focus on social-emotional growth, to the opportunities for girls to lead and use their voices—it’s all designed to shape confident, compassionate, and capable young women. It’s not just about academics, though that’s important. It’s about giving our girls the tools to navigate the world, believe in themselves, and know they belong in every space they enter. That’s what makes Solar different, and that’s why I’m proud to be here.
