Friends of Solar!

Our daughter, Scarlett, started PK4 at Solar Prep for Girls this year and we have been blown away by the community and the PRIDE coming out of this school! As Scarlett entered the scary big girl school this year for the first time, we organized a park play date with classmates before her first day. As Solar prioritizes economic diversity among its students, these girls and their parents came from all over the city to meet up. We met a single dad with twins and a single mom working two jobs both of whom are commuting  their kids in 30+ minutes to give their girls the opportunity to go to school at Solar. The families at Solar are making their children's education a top priority and moving mountains to make it happen. 

I'm so proud that our city has created this opportunity for all that live here. These girls wear uniforms every day, and, because the school is eligible for federal funding (due to a low average income level), they all eat the same free lunch every day. Entering the doors at Solar put these girls on an equal playing field regardless of their circumstances at home. 

I'm convinced these girls are going to take over the world if we give them the chance. And I'm so proud that my daughter gets to be a part of it all. 

DISD is doing its part here. Now let's do ours. 

P.s. (in reference to the picture) today was “Dollar Dress day” to raise money for the PTA, hence the variety of outfits / lack of uniforms!
