Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD) exists to serve and sustain families when serious illness or injury strikes the most cherished part of their lives, their children. It is the only organization that provides a welcoming, safe home-away-from-home for families who travel and need a place to stay while their children receive treatment at any Dallas-area hospital. RMHD serves three meals each day, provides shuttle transportation to and from local hospitals, and offers activities and services to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Families are also able to connect with caring volunteers, other families, and our House dog, Shiloh. Our holistic approach results in families who are physically and emotionally close, which according to a Ronald McDonald House Charities Global study, is a difference maker in reducing stress and enhancing well-being.
With approximately 78,000 square feet, the House offers 77 private bedrooms, six extended-stay suites, and six transplant apartments. Additionally, the House contains multiple playrooms for kids of all ages and interests, a library, media room, craft room, chapel, meditation garden, and outdoor play areas. Two large communal kitchens and dining room provide opportunities for the families to share the evening meal, which is provided three times a day by community volunteers, or to prepare their own food if they choose. Hundreds of volunteers support RMHD's annual operations and fundraising activities by serving families at the House, preparing meals, and hosting organized activities.
It costs RMHD $132 to house a family per night - a cost largely covered by individual and corporate donors, community organizations, and special events. No family is ever asked to pay for their stay. In 2022, we served over 750 families at the House, with a total of 14,090 overnight stays.
