$10,000 Goal

Since its creation in May 2015, Evanescent Mustangs has helped over 1,000 at risk mustangs and burros across the U.S.  As founder and Executive Director of the rescue, and as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Candace's dream was to offer Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy for clients to heal alongside rescued mustangs & burros.  The plan was to save a couple of mustangs to rehabilitate and prepare for adoption then save a couple more (repeat).  The rescue work took on a life of it's own and put a long pause on the EFP program.

In 2024 Evanescent Mustangs collaborated with the therapists at Texoma Line Counseling for the Mustangs & WarHorses pilot programs, an online group for Veterans & 1st Responders who struggle with chronic pain / health issues then in-person groups of veterans with a curriculum designed to speed up the healing process. Although the Evanescent herd wasn't able to attend the pilot sessions, they will be incorporate into future sessions!

MUSTANGS & WARHORSES... where Veterans and First Responders are partnered with Mustangs that are able to help each other heal (the mustangs choose their partners!).  This experiential therapeutic opportunity, a collaboration with therapists at Texoma Line Counseling, offers individual, family and group sessions creating powerful healing experiences for participants. Rather than one-on-one 'talk therapy' in an office, this program offers an outdoor setting where clients work with trauma-focused psychotherapists in the healing presence of the Evanescent Herd.  Each of the equine in our program are at different levels of healing in order to help participants no matter what level of trauma they present with.

JESSI'S PROMISE... We believe that all kids should know the love of a horse. Through Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy we are able to offer a safe space for local youth to have the opportunity to interact with the Evanescent Herd who can help teach connection and healing at a much deeper level.  Many participants of Jessi's Promise are children of Veterans & 1st Responders!

All of the EFP programs at the sanctuary will be on the ground, not in the saddle... and not everyone wants to interact with the herd, but sometimes being in the herd's presence is enough to offer healing and growth in other ways! Evanescent Mustang Rescue will continue to help at-risk mustangs and burros (on a smaller scale) while we pursue opportunities in the mental health field and spread more awareness of how amazing mustangs and burros are! We appreciate everyone that has been with us from the beginning and welcome any new supporters that would like to join us in this cause of promoting healing for humans and equine in our community!

Mission

Evanescent Mustangs is dedicated to the rescue, rehab, and rehoming of at risk mustangs and burros in the greater Texoma area. Permanent residents at the sanctuary in Sherman, TX offer assistance in the healing of 1st Responder and Veteran families through Mustangs & WarHorses, an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy program in collaboration with Texoma Line Counseling, a group of dedicated therapists who were previously 1st Responders or Veterans themselves.
