Who We Are
For nearly 20 years, Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter has served as a safe haven for unwanted, abandoned, and abused animals in Cooke County. Noah’s Ark S.P.C.A. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating in partnership with the City of Gainesville and supported by the generosity of individuals, families, and local businesses who believe every animal deserves care and compassion.

What We Do
Noah’s Ark works to reduce pet homelessness by providing humane sheltering, medical care, and adoption opportunities for stray, abandoned, and owner-relinquished animals. Each year, our team cares for hundreds of dogs and cats while working toward positive, permanent outcomes through adoption, responsible placement, and collaboration with trusted partners.

How We Do It
All adoptable animals receive appropriate medical and behavioral care prior to placement, including spay or neuter surgery, core vaccinations, microchipping, and individualized assessment. We place animals locally whenever possible and expand adoption opportunities through coordinated long-distance transport to approved homes when local capacity is strained. Community-based support programs, such as our pet food pantry, help prevent unnecessary surrender and keep pets with the families who love them.

Why This Matters Now
Cooke County continues to experience high intake of stray and abandoned animals, compounded by limited access to affordable veterinary care and capacity constraints at the local shelter. These challenges create longer lengths of stay and increased demand on staff and resources. Continued community support is essential to maintaining high standards of care, improving outcomes, and building toward a more sustainable future for animals in our region.

Transparency and Accountability
We are proud to have earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (GuideStar), demonstrating our commitment to openness, accountability, and responsible stewardship of the donations entrusted to us. Donors can give with confidence knowing their support directly impacts the animals in our care and helps create lasting change in our community.

Giving Activity

Mission

Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter is a nonprofit safe haven for the lost, abandoned, and abused animals of North Texas. Twenty years ago, caring citizens and the City of Gainesville joined together to create a better future for homeless pets. Before Noah’s Ark, animals in Gainesville were brought to a small, run-down metal building at the city transfer station. They were given just 72 hours before facing euthanasia — and very few ever left alive.

Today, Noah’s Ark changes that story. Our shelter provides every adoptable animal with complete care before they go home — including spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, parasite treatment, disease testing, and a microchip for permanent identification. These essential services not only prepare pets for adoption but also help prevent the cycle of overpopulation and suffering in our community.

Unlike many “no-kill” rescues that can only take in a limited number of highly adoptable pets, Noah’s Ark is an open-admission shelter. We never turn away a homeless pet from the City of Gainesville due to age, breed, or how long it may take them to find a family. Every friendly and healthy animal stays with us for as long as it takes to be adopted — whether it’s days, weeks, or even months. For animals who come to us scared, sick, or neglected, our staff and volunteers provide the patience, medical care, and love they need to heal and learn to trust again.

Each year, Noah’s Ark cares for approximately 2,800 animals on a modest annual budget of just $225,000. With city funding averaging only $13,000, we rely almost entirely on the generosity of donors, fundraisers, and the kindness of our local veterinary partners, who assist with affordable spay/neuter surgeries and medical care. We’re proud to have earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid/GuideStar, the highest level of nonprofit recognition for accountability and trust. This means you can give with confidence, knowing your support goes directly to the animals who need it most.

This wonderful organization could not exist without the charity of the local veterinary clinics that spay and neuter our shelter animals and care for the sick and injured. It could not exist without the compassion of North Texas citizens whose donations keep the animals fed, safe, and healthy.

Your support makes this lifesaving work possible. Every donation provides food, shelter, medical care, and hope for animals who have nowhere else to turn — giving them the second chance and forever home they deserve. Together, we can keep the Ark afloat and continue saving lives.
