Lake Ray Roberts Equestrian Trails Association (LRRETA) is part of the Greenbelt Alliance and operates under their non-profit operational umbrella.

LRRETA is a community-based organization comprised of about 80 volunteer Texans who work to keep around 25 miles of trails maintained and available to the equestrians, hikers, and bikers at Lake Ray Roberts and the Denton County Greenbelt.   For the past 12 years, LRRETA has worked closely with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to obtain over $500,000 in grant funds for recreational trail improvements.  Key projects have included:

  • Horse stall construction, large round pen and electric hookups in the Bluestem Equestrian Camp at Ray Roberts State Park
  • Wheelchair accessible mounting ramps at several trailheads
  • An elevated walkway structure to enable all  trail users to cross a deeply eroded ravine in the Greenbelt Park
  • Trail maintenance -  Many volunteer hours spent repairing yearly tornado and flood damage and keeping brush and vegetation off the trail
  • Bags to Benches - Our volunteers have collected over 27,000 pounds of stretchable plastic that was recycled into 12 park benches now installed at park locations across North Texas.

Donate now to ensure that our future equestrians, hikers, and bikers continue to have natural trails to explore in beautiful North Texas!

Mission

Lake Ray Roberts Equestrian Trails Association (LRRETA) has a mission to:

- Preserve and maintain shared horse-hike-bike trails of Ray Roberts and Greenbelt Parks for our North Texas communities

- Make the region a destination for trail riders and hikers

- Provide community service through various equine related activities

Needs

Help LRRETA volunteers keep Ray Roberts and Greenbelt trails available to our North Texas Horse-Hike-Bike communities. LRRETA volunteers provide the manpower toward:

- Writing and managing TPWD Recreational Trail Grants

- Repairing trail damage from recent tornado and flood damage

- Upgrading and maintaining camp sites to accommodate equestrians

- Building covered Rest Stops and Pavilions for community use

- Installing benches and mile marker posts

Equity Statement

Our commitment to Equity is reflected in projects that benefit all trail users - construction of wheelchair-accessible mounting ramps across several trail locations is one example of that commitment.
