Through the leadership of Wanda Varner, the founder and CEO, Elite Youth Association of Texas (EYA) is a nonprofit organization that uses mentorship, education, and sports to help young people grow into confident, healthy leaders. Since 2009, the Elite Youth Association of Texas has created safe spaces where youth can play, learn, and belong.  Elite Youth Association of Texas (EYA)  provides a structured, youth development program focused on academic success, leadership, and personal growth. Participants engage in mentorship, life-skills training, and wellness education, along with workshops and family engagement sessions. The program equips youth with confidence, resilience, and practical tools for decision-making and goal setting. Through a holistic approach, EYA creates a supportive environment that prepares young people for long-term success in school, career, and life.

This program is designed for middle and high school students, with particular focus on those who lack consistent access to structured extracurricular activities, positive adult mentorship, and academic support outside the classroom. Common challenges among the youth we serve include disengagement from school, difficulty staying motivated academically, and low self-confidence that can affect everything from classroom participation to willingness to try new opportunities. Peer pressure and negative social influences often compound these issues, especially in the absence of strong positive role models. Many participants also have little to no exposure to college campuses, career professionals, or structured planning around life after high school, leaving them without a clear sense of direction or the tools to build one. EYA aims to fill that gap by providing sustained mentorship and academic support during the developmental years when it matters most.

To address these needs, EYA implements structured programs that include mentorship sessions, leadership development, wellness education, and academic support. Participants will engage in goal setting, social-emotional learning, and life-skills training designed to build resilience, confidence, and accountability. Workshops focus on topics such as conflict resolution, decision-making, and college and career readiness, while family engagement sessions will equip parents with tools to reinforce growth at home. The program is designed to provide consistent guidance, positive role models, and practical resources that support both youth and their families.

Projected measurable outcomes include improved academic engagement (such as attendance, grades, and goal completion), increased self-confidence and leadership skills (measured through pre- and post-program assessments), and enhanced social-emotional competencies, including decision-making and peer relationship skills. Additionally, we expect to see increased family involvement and stronger support systems, along with greater awareness and participation in college and career readiness opportunities.

EYA relies on community generosity to provide high-quality programming that strengthens academic achievement, reduces food insecurity, builds leadership skills, and exposes youth to cultural arts and humanities. Program funding ensures we can continue offering safe, structured, and transformative experiences for every participant.

Equity Statement

Elite Youth Association of Texas (EYA) is committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, gender, ability, or zip code, has access to the mentorship, education, and guidance needed to thrive. We recognize that opportunity is not distributed equally, and that many of the youth we serve face systemic barriers that limit their access to quality mentorship, academic support, and exposure to college and career pathways.

EYA is intentional about reaching youth in under-resourced communities where these gaps are most pronounced. We believe equity means more than equal access, it means meeting young people where they are, understanding the specific challenges they face, and providing the tailored support, resources, and consistent guidance necessary for them to succeed on their own terms.

We are committed to creating programming that reflects the lived experiences of the youth and families we serve, employing and partnering with mentors and staff who understand and represent our communities, and continually assessing our programs to ensure they are removing barriers rather than reinforcing them. Every young person deserves a fair and genuine opportunity to reach their full potential, and EYA exists to help close that gap, one relationship, one mentorship, one milestone at a time.
