Angie's Friends

A nonprofit organization

Angie's Friends is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization established in 2008 to aid neglected and abused dogs in economically depressed neighborhoods of Dallas.

For more than 20 years, Angie has rescued strays, managed feral cat colonies, and supported neglected chained yard dogs. She replaces their tow chains with light-weight tethers, provides dog houses, cleans their living area, and often is the only person providing water, food, or any form of affection. Although Angie is more than 80 years old, she crawls under homes, behind bushes and sometimes patiently waits for a stray or injured animal to trust her and her treats.

Angie regularly encounters animals in distress during her daily rounds and Angie's Friends is committed to rehoming as many strays and owner surrenders as possible. These animals are frequently in need of medical attention, which at a minimum entails deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, a microchip, and grooming. More severe cases may require various degrees of surgery. We often also invest in training to help pets in our care connect better with an adoptive family.

Angie is a neighborhood resource for low-income people who love their animals but have limited means to care for them. Through word of mouth, they find Angie and ask for assistance with everything from food to surrendering animals to assistance in emergency situations. Angie’s Friends provides medical care for animals that get returned to their families that includes tumor removal, treatment of heartworm, amputations, flea control, antibiotics, deworming, spay/neuter, mange. We ask no reimbursement from these families and surgeries and after care can cost upwards of $3000 or more.

Angie is supported by a team of volunteers who foster, conduct home visits, manage social media, coordinate donations, and manage the administrative needs.
