WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Impact Campaign

A nonprofit organization

The WE ARE ALL HOMELESS project has made visible impact across the U.S. in the short time since it started. Thousands of students at all academic levels have participated in workshops, hundreds of thousands of people have viewed art exhibits, thousands have attended screenings of Signs of Humanity and have heard Willie speak from the stage, and almost 7 million people from around the world have viewed, shared, or commented on a video about our project.

As the homeless population continues to rise in our community, the attitudes about those experiencing homelessness and the ideas for solutions are simultaneously becoming more divisive. The WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Impact Campaign can play a vital role in the community to create awareness about homelessness and foster compassion, which will lead to humanitarian solutions to this important issue.

Through private and public events featuring creative programming in the form of art, we can provide a forum of compassionate discussion about homelessness that will inspire and empower members of the community.

Our current programs and services include film screenings, art exhibits, talks, and workshops, or some combination of the above:
Film Screenings - Signs of Humanity is a 62 minute documentary film that explores the interrelated themes of home, homelessness, compassion, and humanity. In 2014, Willie and three filmmakers drove across the country, interviewing more than 100 people on the streets and purchasing over 280 signs. The film is available for public and private screenings and has been seen by thousands of people over the past 3 years. After viewing the film, Willie often does a Q&A with audience members and supplies signs from his collection for audience interaction.
Art Installations - These installations typically include between dozens and hundreds of signs, displayed in a variety of ways - on walls, the floor, suspended from the ceiling - allowing spectators to lean in rather than turn away. From funny to poignant, the installations provide an experience for people to explore the humanity of the signs, the meaning of home, and the experience of truly seeing each other.
Workshops - We offer several workshop options for people of all ages, both as stand-alone events or in conjunction with other programs.

Our Needs

The money received from North Texas Giving Day will be used to provide workshops to students at schools in the DFW area. These workshops encompass "What is Home," "Behind the Signs," and "We Are All Homeless." These programs align with the TEKS for Social/Emotional Learning, focusing on empathy building, social awareness, and self awareness. In addition, our project can show others, especially students, how they can use art and film to bring attention to social issues, inspiring them to find ways to use their creativity to start conversations about the issues that they care about.

Mission

The WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Impact Campaign is a Dallas-based organization that was formally established as a component fund of the Dallas Foundation with a mission to create a more compassionate world by fostering awareness and provoking conversations about people on the streets, and to empower and inspire others to find and implement solutions to the many causes of homelessness.
