The Texas Supremacy of Music & Arts Conservatory (TSMAC) is a vital 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization lead by a Grammy award-winning artist and band director with national recognition and is dedicated to providing world-class music and dance education to all students. We operate seasonally from May to July and November to December, including the arrangement of performances like marching band shows and concerts. TSMAC makes a transformative impact on youth by providing a safe place to explore urban arts through a cultural lens providing comprehensive music and dance education.
TSMAC believes in cultivating a generation of youth who feel empowered to express themselves through the urban performing arts, despite issues of access and equity. A recent Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research shows a disproportioned arts education access for students from historically underserved communities. Dallas Independent School District has a microcosm of underserved youth, with 85% of students economically disadvantaged and 62% at risk of not graduating. Arts education can help reduce those numbers. The National Endowment for the Arts reports that low-income students with a high level of arts experience in school are more likely to pursue college, vote, and volunteer in their community. In addition, Middle school students in drama and visual arts programs were less likely to encounter behavioral challenges or engage in risky behaviors.
With tailored programs devoted to instrumental music and dance, TSMAC is confident that we can make a difference and provide an outstanding educational opportunity for middle and high school students. Our approach uses a nurturing and structured framework so that students can develop a strong work ethic, express their individualism, and interact with professionals. Our direct impact on the youth in our program will last beyond the time they spend with us and extend into multiple facets of their lives.
All activities and operations within our organization are overseen by a group of well-qualified individuals. Our diverse volunteers have ties to the community, and thus possess the unique ability to connect with our target demographic. In addition, our board of directors is comprised of a professional group of talented individuals who are dedicated to committing their time and resources into providing the highest quality of programs and services.

Our Needs

We are seeking funds to continue to provide instruments, instrument repair, instrumental instruction workshops to educate students about the history of urban arts performance, the essential practices of developing an ear for music contrast, and sight-reading music rhythms, and dance fundamentals workshops. We seek funds to provide food, water, and transportation to exhibitions.

Mission

Founded with a single mission, TSMAC seeks to provide a world-class education to all students who implement impressionism and expressionism in every category under the Fine and Performing Arts umbrella. TSMAC believes in cultivating a generation of youth who feel empowered to express themselves through the urban performing arts, despite issues of access and equity. By providing our youth with opportunities to develop their artistic skills, they will in turn develop their morals, work ethics, and the success needed to venture into all their future endeavors. Our approach uses a nurturing and structured framework so that students can develop a strong work ethic, express their individualism, and interact with professionals. In addition, we provide instruments, instrument repair, and instrumental instruction workshops to educate students about the history of urban arts performance, the essential practices of developing an ear for music contrast, sight-reading music rhythms, and dance fundamentals. Our vision is to create a future in which all students who are compelled to explore the beauty and wonderment of the urban performing arts will not only have the ability to, but will thrive in an environment saturated in encouragement, support, and resources.

Equity Statement

TSMAC affirms that

• Arts and culture promote dialogue, social transformation, and community strength. However, minorities, including immigrants and refugees, face significant barriers to publicly financed programs, including urban performing arts education.

• Every community deserves equal access to urban performing arts education.

• Every artist is entitled to have their work promoted, exhibited, and experienced.

• Racism in the past and present, including intentional and unconscious practices, has had a significant impact on urban performing arts education and support for artists of color. TSMAC promises to be accountable to those inside its organization as well as the varied community it serves in combating and changing this.

• Access to urban performing arts education for all people and support for all artists are critical.

• We understand that in order to correct historical imbalances, we must invest time, effort, and resources.

TSMAC believes that

• Previous recommendations that focused on diversity rather than structural imbalances did not result in good outcomes in terms of equitable inclusion, equal access to arts education, or support for artists of color.

• In order to achieve fairness for communities of color, it is important to address historical injustices.

• TSMAC's ability to develop and create enriching opportunities for all families and children will be enhanced by bringing together personnel and other partners with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. As a result, racial justice in arts instruction and organizational operations is a top priority for TSMAC. We've got devoted financial and human resources to structural racism training and are committed to building and sustaining.

The following steps will be used to test solutions that will irreversibly change systems:

• Educate ourselves and our communities on the existence and consequences of historic racism and devise new ways of thinking and acting to mitigate its effects.

• Develop and implement new policies and practices in our organizations to study, comprehend, and counteract the effects of racism.

• Collect and analyze data that appropriately reflects the demographics of the people served by and working at TSMAC.

• Seek out, consider, and hire representatives of diverse communities for the TSMAC board and staff.

• Choose and support board members who share your ideals, such as racial fairness.

• Require all board members and staff members to attend racial equity training.

• To develop and cultivate artists of color, administrators from different communities, and other organizations supporting communities of color, engage in programming and planning, including partnership with other local groups.

• Facilitate involvement in TSMAC's programs and events by artists, instructors, lecturers, the community, and other stakeholders.

• Collaborate with other local, regional, and national organizations striving to improve racial fairness in the arts.

• Create and connect programs and collaborations with other local groups to improve the number of individuals of color who participate in the arts and their success.
