We provide a transitional home for our residents where all of their basic needs are met so that they can focus on obtaining gainful employment and rebuilding their stability. During their stay, we provide food, shelter, counseling, casework, financial literacy, and job readiness services to help our residents achieve their personal goals and ultimately attain long-term independence.
The Samaritan Inn is the only shelter in Collin County that accepts pets, ensuring that families don’t have to choose between safety and staying together.
We welcome single men, single women, and families. Unlike many emergency shelters, families at The Samaritan Inn are never separated.
Upon graduation from our program, our most successful residents have the opportunity to apply for a unit in our independent living community, Gateway Apartments. The Gateway Apartments come fully furnished and provide residents with the perfect stepping stone into a new level of responsibility, while still having the ongoing support of many of our services.
Expanding Our Pet Kennel Program
The Samaritan Inn is one of the only homeless programs in Texas offering on-site pet kennels. Studies show that 22% of individuals experiencing homelessness avoid shelters because pets are not accepted, even though many rely on companion animals for emotional stability, comfort, and purpose.
We believe no one should have to choose between shelter and the animal they love. So for more than 15 years, PAWS (Pets Are Welcome to Stay) has ensured that no one has to choose between safety and their pet. Located on our 15-acre campus, Cooper’s Corner provides safe on-site kennels, essential pet food and supplies, and access to veterinary care, removing one of the biggest barriers that keeps individuals experiencing homelessness from seeking shelter.
Through Cooper’s Corner, The Samaritan Inn helps our residents maintain the powerful bond they share with their animals, and by protecting this connection, we remove a major barrier to shelter entry and support long-term stability for the whole family.
The Samaritan Inn is excited to announce that we are currently expanding Cooper’s Corner to add housing for cats, enhanced play areas, bathing stations, and laundry services—nearly tripling our capacity to serve up to 28 pets.
Mission
We are a comprehensive housing program that supports individuals in realizing dignity and gaining independence.
Needs
As Cooper's Corner grows, community support is essential. Your donations help fund kennels and program needs and support construction, veterinary services, and ongoing operations. Together, we can ensure more families find safety and stability without leaving their pets behind.
Equity Statement
Historical and recent events remind us that we must be intentional and must do better to guarantee that the rights and freedom of every person in our community are protected.
As the leadership and staff of The Samaritan Inn:
We denounce racism, ethnic discrimination and the oppression of disenfranchised populations in our community.
We commit to creating an environment of inclusion, respect and dignity. We believe that everyone should be treated with the esteem and humanity granted to us by the laws of the United States and the word of our creator.
We believe that every person - no matter who they are, where they are from, the color of their skin, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or economic status - deserves to live in a society where they feel safe, protected, respected, and welcomed. It is not for us to judge, instead, is to provide a helping hand to those who find themselves in need.
We embrace diversity, equality of rights, equity and boldly affirm these values as core to our mission. We operate with integrity and the desire to ensure the well-being of our staff, our residents, and the communities we serve.
We respect an individual's right of self-determination. We believe it is their human right to make decisions over their own lives and to live healthy, productive and independent lives free of harassment and mistreatment.
We promise to continue our long tradition of providing informed, authentic leadership and to challenge the structures and practices within our society that perpetuate the systematic discrimination and exclusion of any person from the ability to seek the way of life we all seek.
We value the lives entrusted to us and hope to continue to make every opportunity available to help meet the needs of our residents. We will continue each and every day to roll up our sleeves and advocate for those who are marginalized and who experience the indignity of discrimination in all its forms.
Our collective future requires that all of us commit to these values. Our work will not be complete until all persons have achieved equity and enjoy the fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
