The Afiya Center was established in a response to the increasing disparities between HIV incidences nationwide and the extraordinary prevalence of HIV among black women and girls in Texas. The Afiya Center is extremely unique in that it is the only reproductive justice organization in North Texas founded by Black women, directed by Black women and serving Black women and other women of color.

Our programs utilize a economic justice framework to center the expereince of marginilized women affected by poverty and other social determinants of health. In other words, The Afiya Center seeks to decrease reproductive health issues such as HIV risks and access to abortions, while simultaneouslyaddressing the negative reproductive health outcomes among Black Women in Texas, such as poverty and access to education.
