Adaptive Veteran Rowing Program
The Dallas United Crew Adaptive Veteran Rowing Program is a specialized initiative designed to support veterans through adaptive rowing. The program offers individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities the opportunity to engage in rowing, which provides both physical exercise and a sense of community. The focus is on helping veterans improve their overall well-being, build confidence, and foster camaraderie through the sport. By providing tailored equipment and personalized coaching, the program aims to enhance the quality of life for participants and create a supportive environment that addresses their unique needs and challenges.
We support new and returning athletes by adapting the rowing equipment to facilitate the individual needs of each athlete, empowering them to go as fast as they wish. It provides a sense of freedom and peace on the water, as one veteran explains - "When you are in a boat, no one knows you are in a wheelchair"
We row in specially equipped singles, doubles and what is called a rowing barge for all the extra support and stability an athlete could want as they share the experience with their teammates and crossover teammates from our masters' program!
Our program is provided at no cost to the participants and 100% funded by generous donations.
Our Goal
Add an additional stipend for coaches to greater our coach to athlete ratio. Adaptive rowing requires a hands on approach and by adding additional coaching will provide additional depth to the numbers of athletes we can safely coach.
