Sunset Art Studios

Sunset Art Studios is the collaborative social practice of Emily Riggert and Rachel Rushing. Our focus is dual-directional: we create access to the arts for both the public in our southern Dallas community of Oak Cliff and for area artists. All of our public programming is free and focuses on multicultural celebration, place-keeping, and inclusion. In our nearly five years of operation, Sunset has hosted 17 artists in our Residency Program and 18 artists in our Member Artist Sustainability Program. This means that 17 Dallas area artists have received free access to studio space, and the time and funding to create community events and solo shows in our gallery. The 18 artists in our Sustainability Program receive low-cost studio space, access to an arts peer community and professional development opportunities. Both of these groups come together through our studio programs to engage, challenge, and connect with each other and the public. Sunset's provision of funding, space, materials, equipment, and peer support for this growing community furthers our goals to create equitable access to the arts and a non-traditional and sustainable arts business model in an inclusive and authentic space.

Our Needs

Sunset Art Studios is in need of support for the Fall 2020 Artist in Residence program as well as our new Studio Fellowship program. While our operations have been severely impeded by COVID-19, we have not stopped supporting area artists and their work. 100% of funds raised by Giving Day 2020 will go towards directly supporting artists in the Dallas area.

The Residency program will put your support towards materials and artist pay ($1800), operations and space ($4800), and programming ($750) for the 3 months of the Fall 2020 Artist in Residence.

The Fellowship program will put your support towards supplementing the cost of studio space for 2 artists for up to 1 year.
