Equity Statement
In past decades, and when we began our work in the 1960s, suicide was primarily viewed as a White, older male issue. But over time, suicide has continued to rise among teens. Suicide attempts as well as suicides have risen exponentially during the pandemic. Our Board of Directors is actively seeking Hispanic representation.. We currently have two African-American representatives and one Asian-American serving on our Board of Directors.
We encourage racial equity within our organization.
The Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas (SCCenter) currently has six African-American and three Asian-American staff members. The schools we are collaborating with in Dallas are majority minority and it continues to be critical that we represent this diversity when we work closely with counselors, students and parents in North Texas.
