Basically Beethoven Music Education

Fine Arts Chamber Players'/Basically Beethoven's Music Residencies bring professional teaching artists into Dallas schools for individual and group lessons in violin, voice, and piano. Music instruction is completely free of charge to all students - and school districts - involved, and is provided for a minimum of one year. During the 2024 - 2025 school year, Basically Beethoven teaching artists led 616 individual or group lessons in 2 Dallas schools - and two satellite schools - for about 38 - 50 students. That’s equivalent to 14 - 16 hours of free music education each week. We would like to do more, but we need your help.

One of our students was featured on NPR's "From the Top" in March - a national broadcast celebrating excellence in high school classical musicians - and is heading to San Francisco Conservatory of Music this fall 2025. Tinashe McGowan was also the first Basically Beethoven Music Residency graduate to play at Moody Performance Hall in our "Rising Stars" segment at our 2025 Basically Beethoven Festival in more than 10 years. Others have achieved terminal degrees in music and returned to Dallas - and are now Basically Beethoven Teaching Artists - and still others used their learned skills of teamwork, memorization, study, historical and cultural significance of music and art, and dedication to go on to college to pursue other degrees.

The entire program costs about $33,000 to produce - the majority of that - 75% - goes to pay for our professional teaching artists, helping them to stay and work in Dallas while they pursue their careers or open private studios.
