If you knew Toby, you knew Toby. He was attended adoption events, went on transportation trips, and even went to vet visits with fosters.
I started fostering him in January of 2015, he was adopted in February 2015, and returned in March. Toby became an official part of my family April 11, 2015. I guess he liked my place better!
For the past 11-1/2 years, he was an official Shelter2Rescue "volunteer". He welcomed dogs to the house during their short time with us by showing them the doggy door (level 2), sharing (ok, maybe stealing) snacks, and sharing his space. He went on vet visits with them, kept them company during their trips to board a plane or a car, and sometimes it was just a trip around the block to Starbucks. As he got older, less tolerant of the pups, so we welcomed older dogs to the house. Sometimes we went to the park with them and hung out. Sometimes we just didn't understand why they were not adopted. As much as he was visiting vets with them, as Toby got older, they were visiting vets with him.
Toby crossed the Rainbow Bridge June 17, 2026.
If it wasn't for Shelter2Rescue, I wouldn't have had a partner in crime. In honor of Toby and his volunteer efforts, we are raising funds to help sanctuary pets who never found a home of their own. Shelter2Rescue became their home.
For 20+ years, Shelter2Rescue, a small organization with heart, has been helping get dogs into homes, one way or another. Sanctuary pets, although they were not lucky enough to be adopted, Shelter2Rescue, takes care of them just like you would have your own dog(s): medical care, food, shelter, companionship, and love. You can understand that this can be expensive.
In honor of Toby's legacy, please consider donating at least $10 to help support sanctuary dogs. If not sanctuary dogs, then in honor of the dog you adopted from ShelterRescue. I promise, Toby will not think less of you if you donate less. We are matching up to a $1000 for all funds raised.
If you can't donate, consider fostering. You won't regret it.
