📚 LUMOS for Literacy ✨ Support Readers 2 Leaders on North Texas Giving Day 2025!

Hello, friends and supporters!

As a proud Readers 2 Leaders board member, I’m excited to launch my personal fundraiser, LUMOS for Literacy, to support our mission of equipping students for success through the power of reading. At Readers 2 Leaders, we’re committed to ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities to thrive as both readers and leaders. With your help, we can light the way and make a lasting impact on the lives of the children we serve.

Why I’m Fundraising

For me, this mission is personal. My son once struggled deeply with reading, so much so that we were once told he might have to repeat first grade, thankfully that wasn't his outcome. As a mom, I knew something bigger was going on with hm and his struggle with literacy. After a dyslexia diagnosis, and with the right support and intervention that we were fortunate as parents to provide, he was able to unlock the world of reading, and everything changed, for the better. 

Today, he is reading on grade level, but what he truly gained goes beyond words on a page: he gained confidence, courage, and belief in himself that will serve him for many years to come. That’s a gift every child deserves.

Now, imagine living each day unable to read—not being able to understand a medicine label, complete a job application, or help your child with homework. Literacy is more than a skill; it is a critical human right that impacts every single part of daily life and our ability to fully participate in society.

I support Readers 2 Leaders because I believe every child deserves that same breakthrough moment my son experienced—the moment when frustration turns to confidence, and shame turns into pride. Together, through LUMOS for Literacy, we can spark that same light for countless children.

Why Literacy Matters

When literacy rates are low, the ripple effects are devastating:

❌ Children fall behind in school and are more likely to drop out

❌ Adults struggle to secure stable employment, leading to higher poverty rates

❌ Families face generational cycles of disadvantage

❌ Communities see higher rates of incarceration, unemployment, and poor health outcomes

❌ Confidence, opportunity, and hope are lost before they even have a chance to gro

Strong literacy skills don’t just change one life, they change families, schools, and entire communities.

Facts & Figures

Readers 2 Leaders aims to achieve the following during the 2025–26 academic year and summer:

✅ Serve 1,600 students during the school year and summer

✅ Serve 400 adults through literacy coaching and training programs

✅ 85% of students will participate in 80% of sessions for 120 minutes of instruction per week

✅ 90% of students will make measurable growth in key early literacy skills as measured by an externally validated assessment

✅ 89% of children will grow or maintain their reading skills during the summer
