Hope Prison Ministries – Inmate Mentors / Pando Project
Every one of us knows someone touched by incarceration. It may be a close friend, a brother, a son, or even a father. Behind those walls sit men who desperately need the hope of Jesus Christ. They are often cut off from churches, from sound teaching, and from the steady hand of a mentor who will remind them that even in chains, the Gospel is not bound.
Hope Prison Ministries (HPM), together with More Than Redemption Church (MTR) and God Behind Bars (GBB), has been called to meet this need. Through the Pando App—a secure, faith-based digital platform now installed on over 415,000 tablets across 450 prisons—HPM is bringing the Word of God, biblical teaching, and personal mentoring directly into the lives of incarcerated men across Texas and the entire United States.
The Inmate Mentors Program
For years, HPM’s Inmate Mentors Program relied on in-person preaching, letters, phone calls, and a carefully curated reading curriculum. These efforts changed lives, but one man could only reach so many prisons, so many souls. With the advent of the Pando App, that reach has multiplied beyond anything we could have imagined. Weekly sermons from More Than Redemption Church are uploaded, giving inmates across the country the chance to hear faithful, expository preaching and join in worship. Each video includes contact information so that men can reach out directly to HPM, beginning a personal mentoring journey that often continues well beyond prison walls.
This is not passive ministry. When an inmate reaches out, our mentors write back. They speak on the phone. They send Christian books that require reports and reflection. They pray with these men and walk alongside them in discipleship. The relationship becomes a lifeline—one that doesn’t end when a man is released. Those most transformed are often invited into HPM’s Aftercare Program, which provides transitional housing, employment support, accountability, and Christian fellowship. To date, HPM has maintained a 0% recidivism rate among men who have fully walked through both Inmate Mentors and Aftercare.
Real Results
The fruit of this ministry speaks loudly:
- Since the Pando app’s inception in June 2024, HPM’s uploads to the app drew 144,197 views, 239 reported salvations, and 9,792 inmate subscribers.
- For fiscal-year 2026, HPM anticipates an additional 150,000 views, 250 salvations and 10,000 subscribers.
- Beyond the numbers are the countless letters, phone calls, and book reports from men who are hungry for the Word and eager to grow as disciples of Christ.
Every salvation represents a father reconciled to his children, a young man freed from destructive patterns, or a seasoned inmate discovering—for the first time—the peace of Christ.
Why It Matters
When you support the Inmate Mentors / Pando Project, you are not just funding technology. You are stepping into the story of men whose lives are being rewritten by the Gospel. You are giving a father the chance to write home not just with regret, but with hope. You are giving a young man the tools to leave prison not hardened, but humbled and ready to live as a faithful disciple of Jesus.
Most of us can think of someone we love who has stumbled, fallen, and found themselves in a place they never imagined. This ministry exists for them. It exists for the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40) and for those whom society has cast aside. But in Christ, no one is beyond redemption.
An Invitation to Join Us
HPM cannot do this alone. It takes faithful churches, committed mentors, and generous donors to keep the message alive in prison cells across Texas and beyond. Your support directly funds the subscription fees for uploading sermons and discipleship materials, provides Christian literature to inmates hungry for the truth, and sustains the mentors who faithfully write, call, and walk with these men through their darkest nights.
By partnering with us, you help ensure that the Gospel continues to go forth into places where despair reigns. You help maintain the lifeline that connects inmates to faithful Christian mentors. You help preserve the miracle of 0% recidivism among those who complete the program, proving that lives truly can be transformed when Christ is at the center.
Together, we can remember those in prison. Together, we can see men set free—not only from the bars that hold them, but from the sin that enslaves them.
