The Student Emergency Financial Assistance Program is managed by the Basics Needs Resource Center and offers emergency financial support based on the immediate needs of UT Dallas students. The fund supports undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled at least half-time at UT Dallas and are experiencing financial hardship due to an emergency, accident, illness, or other unanticipated life event.
The Student Emergency Financial Assistance Program was created to help Comets with unforeseen, short-term financial issues that, if not addressed, could prohibit a student from remaining enrolled and persisting towards graduation. Awards from the Student Emergency Fund are not required to be repaid.
Last academic year, over 85 students were awarded emergency funds to assist them in continuing their academic journey at UT Dallas. The Student Emergency Financial Assistance Program represents the resilience and generosity of the Comet spirit.
By supporting the UT Dallas Student Emergency Fund, you can assist UT Dallas students who are experiencing financial challenges such as:
- Housing and food insecurity
- Medical care and prescriptions
- Emergency travel costs
- Elimination of jobs and/or unexpected reduction of income
- Other unplanned expenses
Below are testimonials from past Student Emergency Fund recipients:
- “Receiving these funds significantly eases my financial burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies and fully engage in campus opportunities. It not only improved my academic performance but will also give me the freedom to participate in research and extracurricular activities that enriched my experience at UTD.”
- “I'm so thankful for the Student Emergency Fund. The funds gave me the confidence that I can do well in my classes without the burden of paying for textbooks. Even a little support went a long way.”
- “The [award] came at a time when unexpected financial stress could have easily distracted me from my classes, but instead it allowed me to stay focused on my academics and continue pursuing my goals at UT Dallas. Having that safety net gave me peace of mind and stability when I needed it most, and I truly appreciate the difference it made in helping me stay on track.”
