Kicking things off with more miles and a donation
Running with my 30 lb. toddler and a running stroller has gotta be a good training strategy, right?! My boy won’t be able to join me on race day, but he will be joining me for most of my runs leading up to the big day. He’s been loving it so far, nodding his head along to my playlists and waving at neighbors and dogs on the trail.
I’ve been officially training for a few weeks, so today we ran 4.5 miles, which I think is my longest run since I ran a 10K (about 6 miles) in 2022 (my longest run ever)! To be honest, the idea of 13.1 miles is very intimidating, so I knew that biting the bullet and registering for the race AND kicking off fundraising will help keep me focused and motivated!

I’ve signed up to run my first ever half marathon on December 13th. As I run the streets of Dallas, past countless homes of our neighbors, I’ll be sharing updates and fundraising every step of the way! I hope you’ll join me on this journey! Here’s a bit about DEAC and why this organization matters so much to me and our community:
The Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center serves tenants in Dallas county facing eviction. They provide free legal advice and representation to tenants regardless of income, race, immigration status, or native language.
DEAC has attorneys and legal assistants at the ready at every single one of Dallas County’s ten Justice Courts. So when a tenant shows up for their eviction case, they can be represented for free, no strings attached, by a prepared and qualified attorney.
For about two years, I worked with DEAC, and I experienced firsthand the impact of their work on families across Dallas. Most of my clients were single mothers. Many had faced an unexpected job loss, health issue, or death in the family that cause them to get a bit behind on rent. Having DEAC by their side made all the difference in preventing wrongful evictions. Since I left DEAC to become a mother myself, I have even more empathy for mothers facing the fear of getting kicked out of their homes.
DEAC needs funds to be able to continue to provide free legal advice and representation to every tenant who wants their help. The City of Dallas was supposed to provide DEAC with $1 million this year, but failed to provide the funds. Please join me to help bridge some of that funding gap. Every dollar counts!
