My connection to Carson's Village is personal as described below. I have been honored to serve on the board of Carson's Village for the past two years and invite you to support Carson's Village with me in 2026.
I met Jason Dyke, the founder of Carson's Village, in the fall of 2021. He and I were classmates in the Leadership Dallas Class of 2022 #BCE.
The day I met Jason, our 11-year-old was battling a mental health crisis. On that exact day, it had reached a critical point. She was struggling with undiagnosed anxiety and ADHD which had started to manifest itself as depression, uncontrolled anger, and suicidal thoughts.
She was eventually admitted to a mental health facility here in North Texas. We were devastated. We felt hopeless.
When I met Jason in the immediate aftermath of that experience, he asked how my day was going. Unknown to him, I was hurting and felt helpless. I was sad and heart broken. I was honest with him and explained what had just happened to Sophie. He looked at me and told me Carson's story.
Jason lost Carson to suicide at 11. No warning signs, just the reality of finding his son dead. This story hit me hard given the week we had just experienced. God placed Carson's dad in front of Sophie's dad at just the right time.
Jason listened to my story and offered me HOPE. He empathized with me and reminded me that despite how dire the circumstances were for us in this moment, Sophie still had A CHANCE. Sophie was ALIVE.
What a powerful moment for the both of us.
Dealing with loss is not easy. It can be overwhelming. I am grateful for Jason and the team at Carson's Village for supporting people facing loss with direction, guidance, and the support that is necessary to grieve in a healthy way.
Thank you, Jason, for honoring Carson in this manner. Carson is here helping each of these families during their grief and healing.
