Steffany’s recovery journey is more than the story of overcoming substance use. It is the story of rebuilding her life, rediscovering who she is, becoming the mother she wanted to be, and eventually finding purpose in the very place that once helped her find hope.

Steffany came to Nexus Family Recovery Center as a woman who needed help, never imagining that one day she would return not just as an alumna, but as a leader, advocate, and voice for other women and families walking the same road. Nexus became part of the foundation of her recovery, and over the years her relationship with the organization has come full circle.

Recovery gave her the opportunity to rebuild her life one piece at a time. It allowed her to be present for her children, Eden and Eli, and to create a life for them that is filled with stability, love, laughter, sports, school activities, and all of the wonderfully ordinary things that substance use can take away. Some of the greatest evidence of her recovery isn't found in a professional accomplishment or milestone—it is simply getting to be their mom and being present in their lives.

As she grew in her recovery, she discovered that her lived experience could also be used to help other people. She returned to Nexus professionally and has continued to grow within the organization, ultimately becoming Director of Outreach. Today, she represents the organization that once served her and helps build relationships that make treatment and recovery more accessible to other women and families.

“One of the things recovery has taught me is that people are so much more than the worst chapter of their lives. I know what it feels like to need someone to see the person underneath the circumstances,” Steffany says. “That perspective follows me into every room I enter now, whether I'm sitting with someone in recovery, speaking with a community partner, representing Nexus at an event, or sitting alongside organizational and community leaders discussing how we can improve systems of care.”
