Our Story
In 2019, a family in rural North Texas went looking for a safe place for their transgender daughter, and found that none existed. So they built one. What began at a kitchen table is now Grayson County Pride, the only dedicated LGBTQ+ resource organization serving Grayson, Fannin, and Bryan counties: a 1,500-square-mile stretch of Texoma where the nearest comparable support is more than an hour away.
We exist for that girl, and for every young person like her.
Across our region, affirming spaces have been vanishing from schools and clinics, and LGBTQ+ young people are being left with fewer and fewer places to turn. A teenager who doesn't feel safe at school. A kid whose family is trying to understand them. A young person in crisis with nowhere else to call. In Texoma, more and more often, the place that answers is us. When a local hospital or law enforcement office encounters an LGBTQ+ person in crisis, they call Grayson County Pride. We have quietly become the safety net for a community the rest of the system too often overlooks, and our youth are at the very heart of that work.
And the need is growing fast. In 2022, we served about 200 people. By 2025, that number had climbed past 1,450, in a region home to an estimated 14,000 LGBTQ+ residents. We've done every bit of it on volunteer hours and heart.

It sustains the peer support and safe gatherings where an isolated kid finally finds their people. It sustains the crisis response that picks up when no one else will. It sustains the steady, everyday presence that lets a scared teenager know there is always somewhere to go.
