The First Street Methodist Mission is a wonderful place that changes lives. I have been volunteering there on Tuesday mornings for the past 18 months and also serve on the Board of Directors. As a volunteer, I typically stock the fridge and freezer before guests arrive to shop for food. That aspect of the Mission's work helps address food insecurity for local families but is only a fraction of the Mission's overall impact on our community.
For the past two years, we have been working to deepen the Mission's reach. Our ultimate goal is to provide the kind of relationship-based social support that can end homelessness and/or poverty, one guest at a time.
For North Texas Giving Day, the Mission won a grant that will match dollar-for-dollar everything we raise up to $4,500. My personal goal is to raise $1,000 from friends and family to support this effort.
