Support Readers 2 Leaders on North Texas Giving Day 2026

Hello, friends and supporters!

As a proud Readers 2 Leaders board member, I’m raising funds this North Texas Giving Day to help more children become confident, capable readers.

This year’s theme, Reading Is a Science, reflects an important truth: children do not all learn to read in the same way or at the same pace. Effective literacy instruction is grounded in research, delivered intentionally and tailored to meet each student’s needs. With the right intervention, struggling readers can make meaningful progress and that progress can change the trajectory of their lives.

Why I’m Fundraising

For me, this mission is deeply personal.

My son once struggled significantly with reading. At one point, we were told he might need to repeat first grade. Thankfully, that was not his outcome.

As his mom, I knew something bigger was behind his struggle. After he received a dyslexia diagnosis, and the specialized support and intervention we were fortunate to provide, he began to unlock the world of reading. Everything changed for the better.

Today, he reads on grade level. But what he gained extends far beyond the words on a page. He gained confidence, courage and belief in himself, gifts that will serve him for years to come.

Every child deserves that same opportunity.

I support Readers 2 Leaders because I believe every child deserves the breakthrough moment when frustration turns into confidence, shame gives way to pride and reading becomes a source of possibility rather than fear.

Why Literacy Matters

Now imagine moving through life unable to read well; struggling to understand a medicine label, complete a job application, follow written instructions or help your child with homework.

Literacy is more than an academic skill. It affects our health, employment, independence and ability to participate fully in society.

When children do not receive the literacy support they need, the consequences can follow them for a lifetime:

❌ Students fall further behind in school and become more likely to drop out

❌ Adults face greater barriers to stable employment and financial security

❌ Families can become trapped in generational cycles of disadvantage

❌ Communities experience higher rates of poverty, unemployment, incarceration and poor health outcomes

❌ Confidence, opportunity and hope can be lost before they have the chance to grow

Strong literacy skills do not change only one life, they strengthen families, schools and entire communities.

Readers 2 Leaders at Work

Readers 2 Leaders combines evidence-based literacy instruction with caring, consistent relationships that help students develop both their reading skills and their confidence.

During the 2024–25 school year and summer, Readers 2 Leaders:

✅ Served approximately 2,000 students

✅ Equipped 393 adults through literacy coaching and training

✅ Extended its impact to approximately 6,000 additional students through trained educators and caregivers

Behind every number is a child discovering that they are capable of learning, growing and succeeding.
