Project Equine Safety – Program Description

Project Equine Safety focuses on ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and emergency response for both our domestic and wild horse herds. To carry out this work effectively across our large sanctuary, we rely on essential equipment and tools that support daily operations, medical care, and crisis situations.

To improve our ability to keep the horses safe, healthy, and properly managed, we are seeking support for the following needs:

• A UTV with a Drag Attachment:This will allow us to safely and efficiently maintain our pasture spaces, drag pens, and manage the terrain throughout our large wild horse sanctuary. Keeping the ground level and clean is vital for preventing injuries and maintaining healthy living conditions.

• A Tractor:A tractor is crucial for moving large quantities of feed, transporting heavy materials, shifting sand, dragging large areas, and responding quickly to horses in distress who may need assistance standing or being lifted. It also supports daily sanctuary upkeep and emergency response.

• A Remote Dart Gun System:Because many of our wild horses cannot be handled directly, a dart gun allows us to administer sedation or medication safely from a distance. This tool is essential for providing veterinary treatment, addressing injuries, and completing routine health care without causing unnecessary stress to the animals.

• Routine Veterinary and Farrier Care:Regular hoof care and medical treatment are vital for maintaining the well-being of every horse in our program. These services ensure that both domestic and wild horses receive proper ongoing care and can remain healthy, comfortable, and safe.

Together, these tools and services strengthen our ability to protect the horses in our care, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe environment across the sanctuary. Project Equine Safety supports the long-term health and welfare of our herds while allowing our team to operate more effectively and humanely.
