I joined the Denton Parks Foundation Board in 2019 with the common misconception that tax dollars fully covered our community's park needs. I quickly learned how wrong I was. For over 30 years, the Denton Parks Foundation has been dedicated to bridging the funding gap that arises when the needs of our parks exceed available tax revenues.

Our Foundation's impact is visible throughout Denton, from the Eureka 2 playground and the North Lakes Dog Park to the shade structures at the Water Park, and many other vital projects. I am particularly proud of the financial assistance the Foundation provides to low-income families, enabling them to access the many fun and safe recreational activities offered through the City's Parks and Recreation Department. Last year alone, the Foundation funded over 60 recreational program scholarships for individuals aged 4 to 97, covering programs such as Swim Lessons, Childcare and Camps, Gym Memberships, and 50+ Events & Day Trips, totaling $4,500.

The Denton Parks Foundation operates entirely without paid staff; it is managed by a dedicated Board of volunteers who are deeply committed to its mission, me included.
