Every day, our phones ring with calls from people facing unimaginable circumstances. Many of our clients are courageous parents escaping abuse. Others are grandparents, aunts, uncles, or other relatives stepping in to protect children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Most have nowhere else to turn for legal help. From the very first conversation, our team offers compassion, guidance, and reassurance that they are not alone. 

Hope begins when someone answers the call.

Our attorneys provide skilled legal representation and steadfast advocacy, helping families pursue safe, lasting resolutions. Meet Lisa: A Brighter Path Forward

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, Lisa dedicated her career to serving survivors of sexual assault. She never imagined that one day she would need those same services herself.

After years of marriage marked by betrayal, substance abuse, and physical violence she never thought she would experience, Lisa found herself overwhelmed. She didn't just need a lawyer—she needed safety, stability, and a way to rebuild her life.

A Victim Services Coordinator with the Fort Worth Police Department connected Lisa with Methodist Justice Ministry (MJM), opening the door to a new path forward. Everything in Lisa's life had changed. She needed legal protection, a divorce, help relocating, financial assistance, and guidance as she learned to navigate life as a single mother.

Lisa remembers her first meeting with her MJM attorney: "She listened with compassion. Even when I didn't know what was possible, she did."

As Lisa's case unfolded, MJM anticipated needs she hadn't even considered. Her attorney secured an extended protective order, represented her through multiple court hearings, and connected her with practical support—including help with utilities, relocation expenses, and holiday gifts for her family.

Reflecting on her journey, Lisa shared: "I'm so thankful for MJM. I didn’t know agencies like this existed."

Today, Lisa is building a new life. As she navigates the challenges of single motherhood, she is also celebrating milestones—including watching her 19-year-old prepare for his first year of college.

MJM is a nonprofit 501c3 law firm that provides free family law representation to survivors of domestic violence and the caregivers of children who have been abused or neglected. Since 2006, MJM has stood alongside more than 3,500 vulnerable community members in Tarrant and Johnson Counties, whose household incomes are up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
