A Day at Christ’s Haven

When I first started working at Christ’s Haven for Children, I thought I knew what to expect. I knew we provided safe homes for kids and teens who had been through more than most adults could imagine. But what I didn’t know was how quickly those children would teach me about strength, hope, and healing.

One of the first teens I met was a 13-year-old boy who arrived with just a backpack and a guarded heart. He barely made eye contact and spoke only when absolutely necessary. Weeks passed, and slowly he began to open up—first at the dinner table, then during after-school basketball games. I’ll never forget the day he asked if I could help him with his homework. It wasn’t really about the math problems—it was about trust. In that moment, I saw what Christ’s Haven is all about: creating a family model of care where kids feel safe enough to be kids again.

Working here means more than providing meals, clothes, and a roof—it’s about building relationships, celebrating small victories, and walking alongside children as they rediscover hope. Every smile, every “thank you,” every breakthrough moment reminds me why this place matters.

Christ’s Haven isn’t just where I work. It’s where healing happens, where futures are rewritten, and where love wins—every single day.
