Voices Against Gender-Based Violence

Why this matters:

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a widespread human-rights and public-health crisis with deep cultural, legal, and social roots. Many refugee families arrive with unaddressed trauma and norms that can perpetuate harm. Engaging men as partners and change agents is proven to reduce violence, transform norms of masculinity, and protect women and girls from abuse, trafficking, FGM, forced prostitution, and domestic violence.

Approach & Activities:

• Use ALARM’s validated GBV curriculum to train at least 20 male champions in Year One, expanding outreach to schools and neighborhoods in Years Two and Three.
• Run stakeholder forums, public awareness campaigns, peer-education networks, and an integrated referral system linking legal and health services.
• Convene conferences and International Women’s Day campaigns to amplify survivor voices and build multi-sector collaboration.
• Equip five community clubs and digital reporting channels to document incidents and ensure confidential follow-up and accountability.

Expected Impact:

• 20+ trained male champions actively preventing and identifying GBV.
• Direct outreach to at least 500 community members over 36 months and five peer groups reaching households across refugee neighborhoods.
• Improved survivor referrals and coordinated care through partnerships with legal and health providers.
• Cultural shifts toward respectful relationships, reduced GBV incidence, and stronger community accountability.

Total request: 

$348,010 to fund training, outreach, materials, stipends, M&E, legal and mental-health linkages, and local implementation costs over three years.
