Go To School- Stop Chronic Absenteeism!!!!

The data shows that 30% of students in the Superblock (75216) are chronically absent, missing eighteen (18) days or more in a school year. Last school year, Dr. Shareefah Mason, For Oak Cliff's Director of Cradle To Career (C2C), launched the highly successful H.I.T. (Home Visits. Incentives. Training.) strategy with Black Elementary and Todd Middle Schools. Teachers, principals and staff from both schools visited nearly 300 homes of their students, building meaningful relationships and lasting bonds. For Oak Cliff provided monthly incentives for students with perfect attendance, celebrating those who exemplified the 'Go To School' motto with gift cards, sweet treats and SHOES! Parent and educator training was facilitated throughout the year. For Oak Cliff's goal was to ensure the 2025 Senate Bill 991, which prompted school districts in Texas to report chronically absent, was understood by ALL stakeholders. Through the implementation of the H.I.T. strategy, Todd Middle School had the highest increase in Average Daily Attendance (ADA), across Dallas ISD's 228 campuses and increased its state accountability rating from D to B, in one school year!!!!

As the C2C team gears up for its expansion welcoming John Lewis Social Justice Academy and Boude Storey Middle Schools to our initiative, we want to enhance our incentives at all four campuses. Last school year we provided 140 pairs of brand new Air Force Ones to the students at Black Elementary and Todd Middle Schools, with perfect attendance, for the first semester. Our amazing shoe partner DTLR, no longer operates in the Texas area, so we are unable to receive the gracious donations the company provided. But, we most definitely want to RUN THAT INCENTIVE BACK!!! With the addition of two new schools we anticipate our perfect attendance numbers could quadruple...which is exactly what we want.
