Christopher Shelley

For Christopher Shelley, the journey to Nexus Recovery Center was a path built on resilience, faith, and second chances. Today, as an Admissions Counselor, he is one of the first people women meet when reaching out for help at their lowest points- offering a quiet, powerful message that transformation is possible.

Growing up in California, Christopher experienced a childhood marked by instability and family substance use. Seeking an escape, he began using substances at age 15. What followed was a long battle with substance use disorder, periods of homelessness, and a daily struggle to survive on the streets. After years of relapses and military service, Christopher reached a turning point where he surrendered his addiction to God and chose a new way of living. His recovery journey officially began on May 6, 2019. 

After moving to Texas, Christopher attended college directly across the street from Nexus. Though he initially expected to work in men’s recovery, completing an internship at Nexus changed everything. He fell in love with the mission, went on to volunteer as a Recovery Advocate, and eventually joined the team full-time as an Admissions Counselor. 

In his role, Christopher uses his past to build deep, authentic connections with clients. Whether completing clinical assessments or offering daily words of encouragement, he takes pride in seeing the light return to women’s eyes as they realize sobriety is attainable. 

“I know that my past does not define me,” Christopher shares. “My experiences have given me the ability to relate to others, share hope, and make a difference in people’s lives- one person at a time."
