A heartfelt plea for compassion, advocacy, and hope

There is a unique love that springs from the heart of a bully breed. Those who have been lucky enough to welcome them into their lives know that beneath their powerful frames and soulful eyes lies a gentleness and loyalty like no other. Today, I write to you with both a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit, inspired by the memory of my beloved companions, Addie and Stormy, whose lives, though now passed, continue to kindle my passion for these misunderstood and magnificent dogs.

Why Bully Breeds Need Our Support

Bully breeds—encompassing American Pit Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Boxers, ulldogs and more—are too often the victims of misconception and prejudice. Their strength and stature have led to unfair portrayals, overshadowing the truth: these dogs are loving, intelligent, and deeply devoted to their families.

Despite their affectionate nature, bully breeds face unique challenges:

  • Breed-specific legislation that threatens their lives and limits their chances for adoption.
  • Social stigma that discourages families from considering them as household pets.
  • Overcrowded shelters, where bully breeds are frequently overlooked or, heartbreakingly, euthanized at higher rates than other breeds.
  • A need for specialized medical care and behavioral training to help them thrive and reveal their best selves.

The memory of Addie and Stormy compels me to speak out for these dogs. Addie’s gentle nuzzle and Stormy’s playful spirit were daily reminders that every bully breed deserves a chance to live, love and be loved in return.

Your Support Makes a Difference

Imagine a world where every bully breed has the chance to find a loving home. Your contribution—whether large or small—transforms lives by:

  • Funding TLP HQ improvements, making spaces safer and more comfortable for bully breeds in transition.
  • Supporting spay and neuter programs to reduce overpopulation and keep dogs healthy.
  • Enabling crucial medical care, from vaccinations to surgeries, for sick and injured bully breeds.
  • Providing training and socialization resources, helping dogs overcome past trauma and shine as family pets.
  • Advocating for fair, compassionate policies, raising awareness about the truth behind bully breeds.

A Legacy of Love: The Love Pit

I am proud to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for The Love Pit dog rescue, an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating training and advocacy for bully breeds. Please use show your support and make your donation today, as part of our largest annual fundraising initiative through North Texas Giving Day.

It is for Addie and Stormy, and for bully breeds everywhere, that I ask for your help.

Please join me in honoring Addie and Stormy, and all the bully breeds waiting for a chance. Your generosity becomes the bridge between despair and hope—between a lonely shelter and a forever family.

To support my request, I am pledging $4,000 as a matching contribution.

Thank you sincerely,

Letty M.
