The Writer's Garret matters to me because it has been a loyal supporter of local readers and writers since 1994. North Texas is a literary region, in part, because our organization has always been committed to connecting people through the power of language.
As the organization enters its fourth decade, it is taking those efforts to another level through innovative programming like:
- The Common Language Project, an annual community poetry competition, anthology, and reading that will be celebrating its 9th anniversary in 2026.
- Rail Writers, an immersive summer program that takes young writers onto the DART trains and into the city for a journey of reading, writing, and imagination.
- The Lyceum Series, free monthly workshops that cover an every-changing array of topics from graphic novels to memoir to visual poetry.
- Poetry in Place, a series of workshop I co-lead with Teaching Artist Lisa Huffaker in which participants engage with and document their experiences of the Trinity River.
If you chose to support this fundraiser, every dollar will go directly to paying the staff and instructors who keep the organization's programs happening throughout the year.
Thank you for your support!
