My first Stolen Shakespeare Guild production was Picnic back in 2013. I was a freshman at TCU who hadn't been cast in any projects that semester and I really missed being able to act alongside folks who are as passionate about their art as I am, so, on a whim, I decided to audition for Picnic. Little did I know how much this show and this company would come to mean to me.
I have so many memories from that production. I remember taking a ZipCar to and from rehearsals and performances because I didn't bring my car with me to campus. I remember being taught how to properly hold a (fake) cigarette by a fellow cast member because I had never smoked before. I remember being the youngest member of the cast yet never feeling excluded or unimportant. I remember deep dressing room conversations and kind audience comments and the joy of knowing I had found somewhere I belonged.
Over the last 11 years, I've been fortunate to work on 11 of SSG's shows. From Millie in Picnic, to Ophelia in Hamlet, from Minnie Fay in Hello, Dolly, to Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, I've performed dream roles alongside incredibly talented humans (who are now some of my dearest friends) at the Sanders Theater.
Sadly, at the end of December, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center will cease operations, and SSG's performance home at the Sanders Theater will no longer be available. This will happen right in the middle of their 2024-2025 season. They need our help to finish raising the funds for their new space and I am personally committing to raising $500 towards their campaign!
If you're a friend or a fan that resides outside of DFW who's always wanted to see me perform, consider donating the price of a ticket. Every $20 helps!
SSG has provided Fort Worth with beautiful classical theatre for over 15 years. Let's extend that by another 15 and beyond!
