One of our most recent rescues, Rae (yes, ear backwards), was just rescued from Dallas Animal Services this month.

When 8-month-old Rae arrived at the shelter, he had just been surrendered due to too many animals in the home. Our team immediately fell in love with Rae’s huge ears and permanently worried face. Sadly, Rae was having a hard time walking and had an unexplained limp that needed to be checked out.

Thanks to your support, he received X-rays to check out his leg, and luckily, his limp was likely due to a soft-tissue injury.

While at the vet, Rae’s concerned face drew quite a bit of attention. We didn’t know it at the time, but it was discovered that Rae has a rare condition called Ocular Polymyostis, which is a condition that causes pressure in his eyes, and in severe cases, vision loss. This condition makes Rae have “googly eyes,” but thankfully is treatable with a course of steroids. We are so thankful that we have the medical funds available to help Rae get the medical care he needs.

Unknowingly to us, Rae’s journey to adoption was just about to get more exciting!

Two days ago, we received an email from DAS that they had tracked down Rae’s sister. Rae’s sister Mini was also surrendered at DAS for the same reason. Unfortunately, Mini ended up on the euthanasia list due to overcrowding in the shelter and a bad, antibiotic-resistant Upper Respiratory Infection (URI).

We quickly headed to DAS before her medical deadline and rescued her. We were able to do this without thinking twice because of supporters like you - we don’t want to leave a family member behind! Mini will receive treatment for her URI and will then be reunited with her brother Rae. We can’t wait to see this happy reunion once both pups are fully recovered from their medical conditions.

If you are inspired by Rae and Mini’s medical journey, we hope you will consider donating today during a special fundraising event hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas.
