When people go into shelters looking to adopt they are typically looking for happy, healthy, and usually young animals. That means that seniors, hospice cases, those who are ill, or in need of rehab or surgery are frequently left behind. Fort Worth Abandoned Animal Alliance (FWAAA) and its volunteers have always strived to ensure animals with the most need get the care and attention they deserve even, if its only for the final day of their life.
As a foster and volunteer for FWAAA I have had the opportunity to take in a puppy on a code red list that was severely malnourished and give her a 2nd chance at life. We got her healthy and socialized and found her an amazing forever home that she may have never known if we hadn't have stepped in. I also am in current care of a sweet senior hospice dog who came to me after being abandoned at the approximate age of 14 with major dental deterioration, a severe heart murmur, muscle atrophy, and some intense arthritis.
You can't help but wonder who failed these poor girls. The good news is, while others may have either not wanted or been able to take on their medical care Fort Worth Abandoned didn't hesitate to step in and get these pups what they needed to become healthy, happy, and loved.
Can you help us help more animals in the most need?
