Our Board has offered a giving match to support Dementia Friendly Fort Worth during North Texas Giving Day 2024.
I am personally in the thick of things, supporting a loved one through memory loss. While there is not yet a cure, there are medical advancements for care, educational awareness resources as well as support options. My family is finding joy and experiencing gratitude along the way and Dementia Friendly Fort Worth contributes to that.
So often, we only see the devastation or speak of the sadness when it comes to memory loss; but what doesn’t get mentioned as much is how love grows in the process. Or the opportunity to embrace and include those not directly impacted to engage, support and contribute in small and large ways.
Dementia Friendly Fort Worth offers programs that engage older adults and individuals with dementia, while also providing vital support to their caregivers. Our families participate regularly in both virtual and in-person programs. The group also embarks on significant community outreach and awareness efforts attending outreach events, conducting training both in-person and virtually and providing a valuable point of contact for those seeking information and support.
Please join me in supporting the mission and valuable efforts of the Dementia Friendly Fort Worth Team.
As a participant with a loved one facing dementia, I have attended support groups on occasion and benefitted from the support and guidance offered through DFFW. Through DFFW, as a caregiver I am not traveling this path alone. I have benefitted and referred friends and others to the knowledgeable and resourceful Executive Director for invaluable guidance, tips, resources and advice.
As a board member representing Fort Worth First United Methodist Church I am grateful that our efforts make our community better by educating and building awareness on interacting and supporting those with dementia. For me, it has been inspiring and hope-filled to volunteer in the thorough and well-delivered training done by DFFW at the police academy and to other community groups. I also believe, the virtual training provided for organizations to get certified as Dementia Friendly makes our community stronger and more inclusive.
Because of these and so many other reasons, please consider making a donation today to support our mission: Support Dementia Friendly Fort Worth.
With warmth and thanks,
