Prevention Over Intervention!

The Love Pit's Behavior and Training Team is working towards this fundraising goal to improve the long-term quality of life for the dogs in our care and set them up for success for their adoptive homes. 

1) Board and trains
-Dogs in board and train programs work on establishing trust and respect, impulse control, learning how to work with a human, consistency and follow through, confidence building, fulfillment, and so much more.
-Cost: Between $2,200 - $4,500 for 4-6 weeks.

2) Slip leashes and long lines
-Leashes should not be used for control, but rather to provide better and clear communication between the handler and the dog.
-At TLP, we prefer to use slip leashes because they sit right under the jaw of the dog and allow for clearer communication.
-Cost: Between $10 - $20 and we have around 50-60 dogs in our rescue at any given time. 

3) Weighted Vests
-There are many benefits to using weighted vests with dogs. They help anxious or overly excited dogs find their calm and settle their brain. They help dogs that are nervous during storms or fireworks settle down and be able to sleep. They are helpful for dogs that need to lose weight to wear on walks or on the treadmill. They also are helpful for dogs that are anxious or overexcited in public to be able to be calm, cool, and collected. Think of it like a weighted blanket for humans - anxiety reducing.
-Cost: Between $100-$150 and we would love to have 5-10 for the rescue to provide fosters with. 

We cannot do this alone. TLP needs your help to expand grassroots efforts to improve the health and quality of life for pit bull type dogs - and, ultimately, to save more lives!
