Hey, ya'll! It's your girl Bianca, Development Coordinator for Beacon Hill! Since before I started this position, I've realized the importance of education and how it can impact future opportunity. My own journey through college and graduate school has taught me invaluable lessons and skills necessary for the workforce. With a background in Sociology, I learned how social factors can affect our livelihoods, especially those who identify as BIPOC and come from low-income backgrounds. 

We're in a time where public education is facing drastic change. Federal funding cuts and the removal of DEI initiatives are impacting the most vulnerable children in our communities. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has made a devastating impact on our health, careers, and economy, and the ramifications on education are felt today. 

Across the nation, students are struggling to catch up in math and reading to pre-pandemic levels. These academic losses are significantly worse for low-income students of color. At Beacon Hill, we are committed to providing high-quality tutoring to students most in need. Of the students we serve, 65% are African American, 31% are Hispanic, and 92% are low-income. We firmly believe every student has the potential to do great things. To combat growing academic inequality, Beacon Hill invests in each child’s academic growth, teaching critical math and reading skills. With the help of staff, parents, and community partners, we are helping to close the educational gap in DFW. The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
