North Texas (NTX) Giving Day, presented by Communities Foundation of Texas, is a region-wide day of giving. This year, I have volunteered to help the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) raise much-needed funds for its innovative, affordable, and lifesaving programs and services! HSNT is more than a shelter; it's a lifeline for animals in need and serves as a resource to the community in helping to save animal lives through rehabilitation programs, rescuing from cruelty and abuse, and finding them new homes!

Statistically, Texas ranks first among all 50 states in equine population, and North Texas contains the highest concentration of horses in the entire state. The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) is the only large-scale facility in North Texas dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, training, and rehoming the most vulnerable and at-risk horses. Our 33-acre ranch, located in Johnson County, features a 12-stall barn, a covered arena, a storage shed, four quarantine pens, and nine pastures.

Many of our horses and donkeys face months of medical and behavioral rehabilitation due to their earlier lives, but our goal is for everyone to find amazing new homes. On average, the cost to rehabilitate a horse ranges from $1,000 for owner-surrendered horses to $1,500 for horses rescued from cruelty situations, with higher costs for those requiring more intensive rehabilitation. These expenses do not include the time our staff dedicate to training or other activities aimed at improving each horse’s adoptability and reducing their length of stay.

Mando came to us in May from a cruelty case with 9 other horses. He was locked in a very small stall up to his knees in feces between two stallions. He was in very poor condition and despondent. We realized quickly that he loved attention from staff and volunteers. Between the feed program and lots of hugs, he started to blossom. This Palomino Mustang greeted all who would spend time with him. He shared his deep breaths, reminding the humans around him to enjoy the moment. He had some ups and downs with really tender soles. Corrective shoeing has helped him feel better again. Recently, Mando went to his forever home on a beautiful property in Decatur. He will give companionship to a mare who lost her best friend and four new donkey friends. His new owners have dedicated their lives to adopting animals from rescues. Horses, donkeys, and dogs alike.

Myself, volunteers, board members, and supporters of HSNT are motivated by their mission to save, shelter, protect, and advocate for all animals in need across North Texas. The proceeds from this fundraiser will support HSNT's programs and services, helping to serve thousands of vulnerable pets in need. I know you have many options when it comes to selecting a non-profit to support, especially with a giving day like NTX Giving Day.  I can't think of a better way to demonstrate your love of animals than by supporting my fundraiser!

Please join me in making an impact on vulnerable pets by contributing a one-time or recurring gift to HSNT on Thursday, September 18, 2025. You can support HSNT's NTX Giving Day campaign as early as Thursday, August 28, 2025, through midnight on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help HSNT provide care and resources to pets across North Texas. Thank you for being the hero each pet needs and deserves!
