MEET MAX!

Update posted 3 years ago

We are one week out from North Texas Giving Day! 🙌

Let me take a minute of your time to tell you about Max: a heartworm survivor.

I actually saw Max day he came into the shelter. He was laying on the floor of the medical treatment ward, sedated, so they could get X-rays of his mangled leg.

Hit by a car and owner surrendered for “couldn’t afford”.

His intake photo was him on a catch pole.

I came back several days later and he was sitting up in one of the tiny kennels in the small dog room. I reached out to give him a treat and pet him and be shrunk away from my hand.

Week after week I stopped by his kennel whenever I went to the shelter to volunteer. He had such a calm demeanor and I was shocked he was still there and hadn’t been pulled by rescue.

Finally, Fort Worth Abandoned Animal Alliance was able to tag!

he went to another foster but eventually made his way to me.

They decided against amputating the broken leg as it was already well into the healing process and didn’t seem to be causing him much pain.

Pre heartworm treatment Max was sluggish, shy, and would often refuse meals.

After treatment Max’s temperament changed completely. He became even more happy, outgoing, and silly. He is such a charming boy and one of my easiest keeps to date!

Max was adopted a few months back and is so very loved! ❤️

His story could’ve had a very different ending if it wasn’t for FWAAA and heartworm treatment!

Donate today to help us treat more dogs like Max!

Heartworm is a highly preventable disease but deadly when left untreated. Our rescue seeks out these animals in an effort to treat this disease before it becomes fatal. Once treated these dogs can go on to lead normal, happy lives.

No dog (or loving owner) should suffer the horrors of end stage heartworm disease.

NO DOG should die from a preventable disease!!!
